Three Priorities Driving K-12 Technology Decisions Today
Key takeaways:
-
- District leaders prioritize reliability, security and measurable impact to keep learning uninterrupted.
- Dell Technologies aligns solutions and services to K-12 needs with integrated, scalable support.
In my conversations with superintendents and district technology leaders across the country, I hear about the balancing act they’re managing every day: meeting their district’s unique challenges while addressing universal needs like seamless operations, safe learning environments, and effective technology integration. Three priorities come up in nearly every conversation: reliability, security and measurable impact.
-
- Reliability and Durability
Classrooms are tough environments for technology. Devices move from lockers to buses to kitchen tables. Drops and spills are common. District leaders tell me that when a device fails, the ripple effects are significant: students lose access, teachers lose momentum, and IT teams face mounting pressure. To keep learning uninterrupted, schools need durable devices and streamlined repair processes that minimize downtime.
-
- Physical and Cyber Security
Protecting both hardware and data is critical in today’s K-12 landscape. Lost or stolen devices pose significant risks, but the bigger threat comes from cyberattacks. The superintendents and CIOs I work with deal with this reality every week. School districts are facing an average of five cyber incidents per week, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Phishing, ransomware and account takeovers are on the rise. Schools need robust, scalable security measures tailored to the unique challenges of K-12 environments, ensuring consistent protection for students and staff.
-
- More Time for Teacher Instruction
In education, every dollar spent must deliver measurable impact. Right now, teachers across the country are facing unprecedented administrative burdens that pull them away from instruction. Technology investments should help reduce these burdens. When schools choose the right tools, teachers spend less time troubleshooting devices or managing complex systems and more time in front of students. Technology that streamlines workflows and integrates seamlessly into daily operations gives teachers back precious hours to focus on student learning and engagement.
Decades of supporting K-12 success
At Dell Technologies, we’re shaping our approach around these district priorities. Our commitment to K-12 education extends far beyond devices—we’re investing in people, solutions and partnerships that address what district leaders are telling us matters most.
-
- Education Consultants: Our team of education consultants brings deep K-12 expertise to every engagement. As former educators and district IT leaders, they provide personalized guidance to help schools overcome challenges, align technology with instructional goals, and foster productive learning environments for students and teachers. When districts work with our consultants, they’re working with people who’ve sat in their seats and understand the real pressure points.
- An Integrated Approach to K-12 Technology: Districts need an integrated technology ecosystem that works together. As the world’s number one infrastructure partner, Dell brings the full portfolio: durable devices built for classroom use, scalable infrastructure that supports digital learning and a hybrid approach to AI, robust security and data privacy measures, and a partner ecosystem that extends our capabilities. This comprehensive approach means districts can work with one partner who understands how all the pieces need to fit together—from the device in a student’s hands to the data center supporting the entire district. This integrated approach is making a real difference for districts across the country.
One district that’s navigating these priorities with real success is Pearl Public School District. Using Dell infrastructure, Pearl built a strong IT foundation that made instruction more secure, efficient and personalized. We are proud to help districts like Pearl create new opportunities for teachers and students and look forward to sharing more insights from their leaders at Dell Technologies World, May 18-21.
